Physical Education (PE)

Through our curriculum, based on the national curriculum, the children learn three main areas of skill: games, gymnastics and dance. A progressive programme of activities is taught to develop the children’s agility and physical co-ordination, confidence, control and enjoyment through all types of physical activity. The children develop their skills in movement and co-ordination, expressing themselves in a variety of situations. The values of fair play, co-operation, healthy competition and team work are encouraged. A sports day is held annually and other events are promoted such as physical activity days, dance presentations and specialist coaching days.

During the summer term, all Year 2 children complete a half term of swimming instruction. This focuses on developing water confidence in preparation for the Key Stage Two (Junior) curriculum. Also during the summer term, Year 1 children attend professional gymnastics coaching sessions at Five Acres Gymnastics Centre.

Through 'active play times', we are committed to encouraging our children to improve their fitness and be active every day .  We have a purpose-built hall with wall-mounted equipment, a large playground (with markings) and playing field which we use for sporting activities. In addition, we have a ‘trim-trail’ of play apparatus on the field.

Our children have access to high quality after school sports club which introduces them to a range of new sports.

The school is proud to hold National Healthy Schools Plus Status and is committed to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
