Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development

Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development

School council
Members to the School Council are voted on by their class peers. This happens in Sept, at the beginning of the academic year. The council consists of four children from both Y1 and Y2.
Their main aim is to help others by supporting our selected charities.

Harvest Festival
We celebrate Harvest, with our community, through a shared act of worship. During this time, we think about others who are less fortunate than ourselves. We invite the Forest Foodbank to talk about what happens when we donate tins and packets and how this gets to the people who need it, in our local community.

Remembrance Day
To help the children to begin to understand the importance of commemoration, we hold a whole school assembly to listen to the story of remembrance and to show our respect through engaging in a minutes silence.

Christmas
We start our Christmas celebrations with a Christingle reflective assembly. We remember the symbolism of the Christingle as 'Jesus as the Light of the World'.
The school Christmas Lunch brings the whole school together. The teachers and TA's serve the children their food with a background of festive music. Our 'Coalway Bees' values of kindness and respect are at the heart of serving others.
The YR Christmas performance gives the children the opportunity to show how they have settled into school and how their confidence and maturity have grown. We understand that a child's first Christmas, in school, is a very important milestone that we share with parents.
Pupils enjoy their year group Christmas Party games afternoon, with a special guest appearance!
Parents of the Y1 and Y2 pupils are invited to share in the end of term Carol Service.
The end of term Open Classrooms give the children the opportunity to share their learning with close family.

Easter
Through our RE curriculum, the children will learn about the significance of Easter within the Christian faith.
Y1 spring performance  gives the children the opportunity to celebrate 'the arts'. Families are invited to share this special time.
The end of term Open Classrooms give the children the opportunity to share their learning with close family.

Experiences: trips, visits and visitors
Part of our vision at Coalway Infants, is to enrich our curriculum with experiences that will foster a love and enthusiasm for learning. This will be provided through academic, creative, sporting, cultural  and spiritual opportunities that will develop confidence, independence and resilience. As an Infant school, we understand the importance of children's early communication and language skills in the development of healthy and happy relationships.

Celebration assembly
Every Friday, we share and celebrate the children's achievements across our broad curriculum. We celebrate diversity, individual achievements and whole class progress. This together time, provides time for us to highlight our 'Coalway Bees ' values, to develop a positive attitude so that everyone can flourish.

End of the academic year
The Y2 end of year performance gives the children the opportunity to show how  their confidence and maturity have grown and also show that they are ready to transition to Coalway Junior School.
The end of term Open Classrooms give the children the opportunity to share their learning with close family.
