Phonics and Reading

Little Wandle is our systematic synthetic phonics programme. It has been validated by the Department of Education. It is based on the original Letters and Sounds, but extensively revised to provide a complete teaching programme meeting all the expectations of the National Curriculum and preparing children to go beyond the expectations of the Phonics Screening Check.

How we teach Phonics in Reception and Year 1?

Supporting your child with reading

Reading is our main priority in school. Alongside this, you can have a huge impact on your child’s reading journey by continuing their practice at home.

Your child will bring home fully decoded reading books which have been correctly matched to your child’s phonic stage. They will continue to re-read these books to increase fluency and independence. Books will continue to be changed once a week alongside monitoring ‘READ’ bookmarks.

Please click on the link to access further resources and help support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home. 'Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised' website

PE

We would like your child to leave their PE Kit in school for the half term. The children may also bring in a pair of wellies to change into that they can keep in school for the term.
