Overview of School

We are a popular school, with a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere. Our maximum possible number on role is 180 children. We have six classes in total, there being two classes per year group and can accept up to 60 children in each year group. Children attend our school between the ages of four to seven years.

The school is located within the Forest of Dean and shares an attractive site with Coalway Juniors, Coalway Early Years and Coalway Kids’ Club. Close links exist between all providers which ensures a strong continuity of education for our children from pre-school to eleven years of age.

We have an excellent staff team at Coalway and our children and families benefit from a significant amount of skilled adult support across the school. We teach through a cross-curricular approach. Each term the children are taught the different subject areas of the curriculum through a topic theme e.g. ‘All About Me’, ‘Let it Grow’, ‘Hot and Cold’, which links together subject areas in a meaningful way for the children. They are encouraged to question, explore and experiment as part of the learning process and to have fun as they do so!

The school building and classroom environments are bright, welcoming, well-resourced and well-maintained. Our attractive school grounds further enhance the learning environment and learning is extended to the outdoors as much as possible to enhance curriculum opportunities even further.
