Reading at school
Coalway Community Infant School has a very exciting online reading scheme called Bug Club. It is available for all children in Reception - Year 2. We hope that you and your child will love these books and enjoy reading them at home. Bug Club is a finely levelled reading scheme, which ensures that all children are allocated the correct level of book by their class teacher. Bug Club is an e-book reading scheme that your child will use for independent reading at home throughout the week. Each child has a unique homepage and their reading will be monitored weekly by their class teacher. Their class teacher will also then update their ‘READ’ Bug Club bookmark weekly and when they have completed their bookmark they will arrive home with their first ‘READ’ badge!
As well as using Bug Club at school children will have their own reading book at school, which is kept in their class drawer. Children will read these books at least once a week at school with an adult. These books will also be changed weekly and are completely decodable and suited to your child’s individual level. Children will also take part in a guided/small group read with an adult once a week.
Each class has a designated ‘PE day’ in school and Class 1's is on a Friday. On this day the children will be doing a range of PE activities in the Hall and outdoors as well as exploring the grounds through lots of different activities.
On your child’s PE day we would like your child to come to school dressed in PE kit that is suitable for them to work in both indoors and outside: We suggest joggers/leggings, sweatshirts/hoodies (no slogans please), T-shirt, trainers, a warm, waterproof coat, a hat and gloves. The children may also bring in a pair of wellies to change into that they can keep in school for the term.
